Petition against EU regulation

Feb 17, 2016
Various associations in the pet sector are mobilising against the proposed EU regulation referring to the use of homeopathic and naturopathic products for animals. The regulation is intended to amend the law on veterinary medicinal products that applied hitherto.

In a petition to the German Bundestag, they call on German representatives in the EU not to agree to EU regulation COM (2014) 558 on veterinary medicinal products. Critics warn that a complete range of medicines of plant origin, homeopathic remedies and commercial care products and food supplements could disappear from the market.

Critics of the proposed revision include associations belonging to the Kooperation deutscher Tierheilpraktiker (Cooperative of German Animal Health Practitioners) and the Artgerechte Tiergesundheit association. Some companies in the pet sector, including Canina, support this call to action and are calling on pet product retailers to back the petition.
