The American pet retail group Petco is closing its Drs. Foster and Smith (DFS) business, including all operations in February. The closure will affect 289 employees.
Petco has explained that it prefers to streamline its operations and focus on its core business and customers. Wisconsin-based DFS was founded in 1983 as a group of four veterinary clinics.
In 2003, the company started to offer a full-service pharmacy that enables customers to get prescriptions online and by mail order. The veterinary-owned online pet supply company was acquired by Petco in 2014.
